Blender versus trueSpace, creating models for XNA

royalexander has posted a nice article on his blog about the differences of Blender and trueSpace for XNA model creation.

Blitz3D Exporter for Blender

The B3D Exporter is a script that permits to export your 3D models in the BlitzBasic format useful to all game programmers that use Blitz3D or Irrlicht. In this new version I've added the support for vertex color, multi texture and multi UV in this way you can lightmap your levels directly in blender and in the same way you can make your normal maps, all this in only one powerful free package. Don't forget to donate for maintain this and future projects.

Modeling for XNA with Blender Part IV

StormCode has posted part IV of their Modeling for XNA with Blender series. In the final part of the Blender/XNA series, they add two animations to our textured model, load it into the SkinnedSample using the new content processor, and switch between animation clips.

Using Blender 3D to Create a Star Field

One of the simple systems that you need for almost all of the XNA Applications is the ability to display a nice clean background. For one of Mykre's projects, he needed to draw a simple star field for the background. To do this he could have used one of the 2D drawing applications like Photoshop or the free Paint.Net, but he chose to use the 3D rendering system of Blender to draw his scene and render out the Background.

Modeling for XNA with Blender Part III

Stormcode has posted part 3 of their Modeling for XNA with Blender tutorial series. In this part, they go over the following:
 1. Add an armature to our model
 2. Add bones to the armature in a sensible way that will allow us to be able to do the kinds of animations we want to do
 3. Link up vertices in the model with bones in the model, so that moving a bone causes the model to move (we'll use weight painting for this)
 4. Talk about inverse kinematics and forward kinematics, and see how each of them affects our model

Modelling for XNA with Blender Part II

Stormcode has posted part II of their Modeling for XNA with Blender. In part II, they'll show you how to build a more complicated mesh, unwrap it, and build a UV map to map the mesh's vertices to a custom texture. They'll look at some basic Blender modeling techniques along the way as well.
